Has to say on the subject of why have a anti virus
and its importance to you
And WE Quote"
Do you really NEED an antivirus program?
Many people view antivirus programs are either unnecessary,
faulty, system resource hogs, and costly. The fact is this – they can be, and
some ARE, all of the above. However, there are a few things to consider before
dismissing the issue.
For the longest time,I was one of those people who thought antivirus was a waste of my time,
money, and precious CPU resources.I
operated under the assumptions that nothing would happen to my computer, and if
something did, I’d reload my computer and move on with my life… which is exactly
what I did.
My approach was, at best, problematic.Of course I had files that I wanted to take
with me when I reloaded, and I would do a simple drag and drop to a different
hard drive… the only flaw in my logic was that a virus (though they were not as
sophisticated in those days) could have easily infected said files, and come
right back to make its home after my reload.
I’ll be very honest with you – I was forced into becoming
protected.Though now that I am, I’ve
grown and learned the logic and necessity behind it. I was a part of several
communities – a corporation, and a university. My being reckless would have
been unfair firstly to myself, and secondly to the communities in which I
computed.
I’ve learned that with the right protection for your needs,
your computing experience can continue unencumbered by a whole host of
malicious programs. Everyday there are people out there writing new programs to
derail your computer, and for those who depend on their computer, their very
livelihoods.
Throughout the years I’ve used and experimented with various
AV programs, some of which given to me by either places of
employment/education, and what I’ve found is this. There is NO reason you
cannot have a good level of protection without sacrificing performance. I was
issued countless free copies of Norton – and they all went into the rubbish
bin. I said: “Thanks just the same, but I’d rather be able to use my computer
to do a few things” – Of course I am referring to the point for which Norton is
most famous… the out of the world system resource usage their “protection”
programs devour.
To maintain a current level of operability whilst running a
Norton/Symantec product, you’d likely need to double –at minimum- your system
ram. Heck, you may need to upgrade your CPU. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
Luckily for the computing community, there are many
alternatives available, and they range in price from expensive all the way to
free.
It’s true that you get what you pay for, but it’s also true
that there are several dirt cheap or free products which do a heck of a
job. That being said, it’s even truer
that a free program, even without the bells and whistles of a high-priced app,
will still afford you more protection than going it alone and hoping for the
best.

With that said now think just one
moment about if the data ("stuff") on your computer is worth protecting
against threats?
- I would say Yes it is -
Or would
you feel better about
Paying to
have your data backed up and cleaned (if possible) when you do get a virus
It will
just be a matter of time before you do get one (if not many Viruses).
And.
Paying
more to have the computer “Wiped & Reloaded”, or scanned with an antivirus
and professionally cleaned to kill the Virus (and then any damage will need to
be fixed)
Or more
likely many threats such as Viruses, malware, spyware,
adware, etc.
And the virus may return to at anytime starting the repair over
again
(if you don’t protect the computer)
